The Garden of Wellness

The Center for Research on Women with Disabilities (CROWD) at Baylor College of Medicine, is recruiting study participants to TEST an ONLINE interactive health promotion program called The Garden of Wellness”. This innovative Internet program is designed to increase knowledge about exercise, nutrition, stress management, and the use of health care services; reduce isolation and increase connectedness for women with functional impairments and to improve health behaviors. Enrollment deadline 3/9/09.

Eligibility: being a woman at least 45 years of age, have a physical limitation, disability, chronic illness or health condition that limits activities (for at least one year), live in the Houston area, and have access to a computer with a high-speed Internet connection about 1-4 hours per week.

Study participants will be randomly assigned to an online intervention group for 8 weeks  or a control group (that will just complete 3 surveys but have access to the program 6 months later–a compact disk of the program). Participants who complete surveys receive $payment in either group. Women who like learning using computers will enjoy participating in this study.

The Principle Investigators are BCM researchers, Drs Margaret A. Nosek and Susan Robinson-Whelen. This study will collect valuable information about how providers can improve the health and well-being of women with physical disabilities.
